"...the best upgrade of your life"
Aaron Highsmith is a great addition to our medical staff. Aaron leveraged his prior 11,000 thousand hours of clinical experience to get the opportunity to attend and graduate in 2007 from the Stanford University Physician Assistant Program. From 1999-2006 he worked as respiratory care practitioner. During that time he worked multiple facets of healthcare. From attending high risk births and C-sections, to working at a world renowned burn center. He also cared for children to geriatrics medicine and even critical care transports.
As a PA-C, Aaron is licensed to diagnose, treat, suture, order X-rays, ultrasounds, CT, CAT scans, and fix all manner of illnesses or injuries, including prescribing all medications as appropriate. He diagnoses and treats patients at three of the largest hospital Emergency Rooms in the region. We like his wealth of knowledge and experience. He is an asset for House Call Doctor Thousand Oaks.
Our MA (medical assistant) is a 2015 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology from UCLA. Nicole also just returned from a six month language immersion program working at rural medical clinics in Guatemala.
As a MA, Nicole prepares prescription refills for the licensed MD’s and PA-Cs, draws blood for labs, performs ECG tests and collects vital patient data.
If you are coming here as a primary care patient, this part may feel a little different than other medical appointments. You may see Nicole a few days before your scheduled appointment — our goal is that the medical staff has lab and test results in their hand to discuss during your appointment.
She’s working with us for two reasons: Nicole likes our level of medical care, and in her off hours she can also shadow the rest of the medical team as she prepares for admission to a Physician Assistant Masters degree program in about a year. Quite frankly we hope that by time she’s completed that in three years, that Nicole is only interested in working here at House Call Doctor Thousand Oaks.
Her prior experience also includes over a year as a MA for a large endocrinologist office, plus time as a nursing volunteer at UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital, and as a research assistant at UCLA.
