House Call Doctor Thousand Oaks was founded as three key elements came into focus for one physician.  Imagine blending:

• a board-certified Family Medicine doctor, trained to care for the whole patient

• with a 20+ year career in the Emergency Department with a whole-person focus

• plus a move to California to get married​.

Over more than a year of conversations, three questions guided the vision: What would it take? How could we leap past insurance barriers? Why would people benefit? These questions led to a simple conclusion: “We can do better.”

In 2011, Dr. Ellen Crowe and her husband, Paul, co-founded House Call Doctor Thousand Oaks. Ellen brought decades of medical expertise; Paul brought business leadership and operations management. Together, they built a practice designed to restore what medicine was meant to be: personal, accessible, and centered around the patient.

After decades in the emergency department, Dr. Crowe saw firsthand the challenges patients faced in the traditional healthcare system — long waits, rushed visits, and not enough time to truly listen and care for each individual. She knew patients deserved better.

With that vision, Dr. Crowe and Paul created a physician-owned practice that combines the personal care of medicine’s past with the advanced tools and expertise of today. By offering house calls, our team provides high-quality medical care directly in the comfort and privacy of your home, without the stress of crowded clinics or busy waiting rooms.
